About

Mandate

The South Asia Council for Security Policy (SACSP) is committed to advancing independent, rigorous, and policy-relevant analysis on the security and strategic affairs of South Asia. The organisation focuses on rising and under-examined domains of conflict and cooperation, with an emphasis on evolving security dynamics across the region and the external forces that shape them. SACSP recognises that South Asia’s security challenges cannot be understood in isolation, the organisation situates regional dynamics within the broader context of shifting global power structures, great power competition, and evolving international norms, analysing how external developments constrain, interact with, and redefine the region’s own strategic trajectory.

SACSP stands at the intersection of academia and policymaking, producing research that is both analytically grounded and practically applicable to contemporary challenges. Through sustained research, dialogue, and engagement, the organisation seeks to promote informed debate, deepen cross-regional understanding, and contribute to the development of evidence-based and adaptive approaches to shared security challenges. In doing so, SACSP also aims to create a platform for meaningful exchange between scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, bridging the gap between academic scholarship and real-world policy thinking.

Mission

To produce analytically robust and policy-relevant research on the changing security landscape of South Asia, with particular attention to emerging domains of conflict and cooperation and their intersections with global geopolitical and strategic developments. The organisation is committed to bridging academic scholarship and real-world policymaking by delivering work that is intellectually rigorous and practically applicable.

Through research, dialogue, and sustained engagement, SACSP seeks to encourage informed debate, promote cross-regional understanding, and contribute pragmatic and adaptive thinking to shared security challenges.  At its core, the organisation remains dedicated to cultivating a new generation of researchers and practitioners equipped to engage with the complexities of South Asia’s strategic environment.

Vision

To be a credible and distinctive centre for independent analysis on security and strategic affairs in South Asia, one that brings rigorous external perspective to the region’s most consequential and under-examined challenges. SACSP aspires to shape informed discourse at the intersection of policy and practice, contributing to a more stable and strategically coherent regional order by producing work that is nuanced, forward-looking, and grounded in evidence.
